Link Building: White hats and dirty spammers

Ever since I started doing Search Engine Optimization (SEO) at my internship, I couldn't stop wanting to learn more about it. It became a new challenge and a new skill to learn.

But just as everything else in social and online marketing, ways to do SEO are always changing, especially with Google's new Panda Update.

After spending countless hours optimizing a client's website using old, proven SEO techniques that still work, including keyword research and meta tags/descriptions, we got some great results and multiple #1 rankings.
The SEO success made me feel like nothing is impossible, and the next step, i.e. building links, seemed like a piece of cake.

Social:IRL with Peter Shankman

I had an opportunity to attend another awesome Social:IRL event yesterday. This one was on social media in customer service - Peter Shankman had some great advice and interesting case studies.

It all boiled down to one main premise: social media is not about "cool," it's about revenue.

I'm employed!

It finally happened! The day I moved to KC my employment authorization card came in, and two days later I was officially an intern at an ad agency.

It is awesome.
Especially since I haven't been working for over a month.

Before starting, I sort of knew what I was getting into - I've already learned a lot about social media monitoring and SEO, but what I didn't realize is just how many people I will meet in such a short time period.

The Kindle generation

A few days ago I invested into a new 3rd Generation Kindle.

When the e-readers have just started to become popular, I was very heavily on the anti-digital-book side. Being a bookworm from an early age, I could not understand how someone could trade that amazing feeling when you flip through a new book for a lifeless gray tablet.

Exploring KC with LinkedIn

I've had a LinkedIn account for a while, but never thought of it as more than just a tool for building your professional network. For a long time, most of my contacts were my peers, professors, and several other people from the Springfield community that I knew well.

Now that I am getting to move to another city, I've been doing some research, and I started to notice a lot of blog posts and articles urging me to "Make more of your LinkedIn profile" (this is one of my favorite articles) and sharing tons of great tips and information.

My first webinar

Yesterday I got a chance to attend my first ever webinar! Gotta love having so much free time.

I found out about this webinar from Social Media Examiner.com - one of my favorite resources for news and trends in the social media world. The format included three interviews with experts plus a Q&A during every session.

Third time's a charm

It's been almost a month since I graduated college. Woohoo!

I was also one of those lucky grads who landed a job (internship) before graduation. Social influence internship in an advertising agency in KC will be a perfect start of my career.

Now I just have to humbly wait until I can actually start working.
